RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

1980-1992
While teaching in TU-Sofia:
Designing and programming several finite element packages for analysis of electromagnetic fields under contracts with the Bulgarian Ministry of Science and Higher Education:

(a) finite element package for analysis of time-harmonic electromagnetic fields in linear induction machines;

(b) finite element package for analysis of transient electromagnetic fields in non-linear media - asynchronous electrical machines, nondestructive testing devices.

(c) finite element package for analysis of magnetostatic fields in nonlinear media - inductors, actuators, permanent magnet and synchronous machines;
1992-1994
Post-doctoral research fellow for 2 years at:
Laboratory for Electrical Machines and Drives (ELECTA)
Electrical Engineering Department
K.U. Leuven, Belgium.

Main activities:

(a) Finite element modeling of permanent magnet DC machines and induction machines using MagNet CAD-finite element package. (a product of Infolytica Corp., Montreal, Canada). Served as consultant for MagNet, testing new versions of the package.

(b) Developed C-programs (shells) allowing parametric input of the geometry of the analysed devices and automation the use of MagNet with goal - automating the computer experiments needed for the design of the experiment method.

(c) Multiresponse (vector) optimization of permanent magnet machines using evolution strategy.

1995-2007
(a) Research on optimization of optical fibers.

(b) Design and optimization of electrode systems for application in electrochemotherapy, based on Finite Element Analysis of the electrical field. Since September 1999 – working as half-time Research Associate at Bulgarian Academy of Sciences - Center of Biomedical Engineering.

(c) Research on inverse problems in electrical impedance tomography and eddy current nondestructive testing.

(d) Using parallel genetic algorithms and neural networks, combined with the Finite Element Method, for solving optimization and inverse problems in electrical engineering.

(e) Refferee for the journals:
- Journal of Materials, Science and Technology
- IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering

2007-2009

Research on wireless power transfer

2010

Research work (01.12.2009-30.09.2010), at the Technical University of Lodz, Poland, in the Computer Engineering Department, as Research Associate on FP6 Marie Curie Project “DENIDIA”, on modeling and optimization of Electrical Capacitance Tomography (ECT) sensors.
